§ 61.026. REPORTING ACCIDENTS.

  • (a)

    A driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in the injury to or death of any person, or total property damage to an apparent extent of $1,000.00 or more, shall within 72 hours after the accident make a written report of the same at the office of the Chief of Police on a standard form provided by the Police Department. In the event that an accident is investigated by the officers of the Police Department, the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident shall not be required to file the aforesaid report at the office of the Chief of Police.

    (b)

    Compliance with this section shall in no manner relieve any driver involved in an accident from filing such reports as required by the laws and regulations of the State of Iowa, and in particular from reporting such information at the office of the Chief of Police as required by Section 321.274 of the Code of Iowa.
