§ 61.123. ROUTES FOR HEAVILY LADEN VEHICLES.

  • (a)

    Every motor vehicle weighing 10 tons or more, when loaded or empty, and every semi-truck having no fixed terminal within the city or making no scheduled or definite stops within the city for purposes of loading or unloading, shall travel over or upon the following streets within the city and none other except as hereafter provided:

    All designated freeways, expressways, U.S. and state highways.

    5th-8th Avenue S.W. connection from I-380 to "H" Street S.W.

    6th Street S.W. from the South City Limits to and including the intersection of 1st Avenue West.

    7 TH Street N.E./S.E. from 1-380 to 8 th Avenue S.E.

    8th Avenue from the 5th-8th Avenue S.W. connection at "H" Street S.W. to the intersection of 8th Avenue, 10th Street, and Mt. Vernon Road S.E.

    8 th Street N.E./S.E. from 1-380 to 8 th Avenue S.E.

    10th Street S.E. from the intersection of Mt. Vernon Road and 8th Avenue S.E. to and including intersection with 1st Avenue East.

    15th Avenue S.W. from 6th Street to 16th Avenue.

    16th Avenue S.W. from 6th Street to the West City Limits.

    33rd Avenue S.W. from 6th Street S.W. to I-380.

    Edgewood Road S.W. from 16th Avenue to U.S. Highway 30.

    Mt. Vernon Road S.E. from the East City Limits of the city to and including the intersection of 10th Street and 8th Avenue S.E.

    Wiley Boulevard S.W. from 16th Avenue to U.S. Highway 151 (Williams Boulevard).

    (b)

    Every motor vehicle weighing 10 tons or more, when loaded or empty, and every semi-truck having a fixed terminal, making a scheduled or definite stop within the city for the purpose of loading or unloading shall proceed over or upon the designated routes set out in this section to the nearest point of its scheduled or definite stop and proceed thereto, load or unload and return, by the most direct route to its point of departure from said designated route except as hereafter provided. Nothing herein contained, however, shall prohibit the parking of a motor vehicle on any other street for the purpose of making emergency repairs.

    (c)

    Every motor vehicle weighing 10 tons or more, when loaded or empty, except semi-trucks unless in compliance with subsection (b) hereof, making a scheduled or definite stop within the city for the purpose of loading or unloading may use the following designated route:

    Edgewood Road from the northerly corporate limits to and including the intersection of 16th Avenue S.W.

    (d)

    The City Council may, when deemed necessary, by resolution, impose limitations as the weight of trucks or other commercial vehicles on designated streets or highways under the Council's jurisdiction, which such limitations shall be designated by appropriate signs placed on such streets or highways. Any violation of the terms of a resolution shall subject the violator to penalties for violation of law as provided in the Municipal Code of Cedar Rapids.
